About DSSY

In the year 2012, the University established a full-fledged academic department to promote scientific studies and research related to sports, including adapted sports, and yoga – ‘Department of Sports Science & Yoga’. The five-storey building christened as ‘Atma-Vikas’ (literally, five-layered self-development) houses the Department of Sports Science and Yoga, equipped with modern laboratories and classrooms, state-of-the-art conference room, a fully functional fitness centre and huge Yoga halls, dedicated exclusively to teaching and research in the fields of Sports Sciences and Yoga. Ramakrishna Mission is well known for its contribution in this field of education in India. The Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda University (presently named RKMVERI) was established in 2005, under Section 3 of University Grants Commission (UGC) Act, 1956, in order to promote education and research in selected “thrust” areas – of which adapted sports and yoga were one of the important areas. In the year 2012, the University established a full-fledged academic Department to promote scientific studies and research related to sports, including adapted sports, and yoga.

About Yogasana competition

A state level yogasana competition was held on 29th March (for girls) and 30th March (for boys), which had three age categories:

Group A (10-14ys)
Boys and girls
Group B (14-18ys)
Boys and girls
Group C (18-25ys)
Boys only

Each participant was asked to perform a total of five asanas:

  1. One front-bending asana
  2. One back-bending asana
  3. One balancing asana
  4. One twisting asana
  5. One optional asana.
