Sports Science covers a broad range of fields including human physiology, psychology and biomechanics, and their relationship to sports performance, health and well-being. It aims to develop knowledge and understanding of the basic structure and function of the human body and to discuss how this knowledge can be used to improve health and/or performance. Aim of the sports scientists is to provide evidence-based methodologies by cutting-edge science to help athletes reach the very pinnacle of human performance unique to their genotype-phenotype and sport. It transforms the performance level of a sports person by uncovering critical, yet often overlooked, areas of athletic performance. Moreover, the sports science experts analyze athletes through a scientific lens to uncover biomechanical or cognitive weaknesses that may be holding them back from unlocking their true potential.

Sports science has already emerged as a fast-growing interdisciplinary area of higher education in India as is evidenced by the opening of PG Courses in many premier Universities, including our own Institute, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Educational and Research Institute or RKMVERI (Deemed to be University) and further through the setting up of a number of Institutions like NSU Manipur & Lucknow etc. To explore more about the recent developments in the field of sports science, the Department of Sports Science and Yoga at RKMVERI, Belur, is organizing a two-day seminar-cum-workshop to create awareness among higher education stakeholders and encourage the youngsters to consider the proper process to high performance in various sports.

The program includes presentations from national levels eminent sports scientists about the recent developments and scope of improvements in the field of Sports Psychology and sports Physiology and Biomechanics. It also includes a hands-on workshop on exercise physiology guided by renowned Sports Scientist Dr. Sanmuga Nathan of Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia. The conference also provides wonderful opportunities to young faculties and research scholars to present their research work in front of an elite panel of sports scientists.
