The sports division of AIU (Association of Indian Universities) functions as the Inter University Sports Board for the promotion of competitive sports in the university sector. In university education, sports plays an important role in the development of the integrated personality of the youth including – body, mind and spirit. Accordingly, active participation of University students in competitive sports generates a spirit of healthy competition in daily life too.With this vision, every year AIU organizes National University Games in collaboration with member Universities for participation of University teams/contingent in National and International Championships. Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS),Chennai was entrusted by AIU to organize the All India Inter University Yogasana Men’s Championship 2025-2026. The competition took place from 18th to 22th December, 2025 in Vels Institute of Science, Technology and Advanced Studies (VISTAS), Pallavaram Campus in Chennai.
In this competition, universities all across India participated across four categories.

- Artistic Yogasana
- Rhythmic Yogasana
RKMVERI has a vibrant Sports Science and Yoga Department which runs various academic and professional courses. The Department sent a team of seven boys for the competition. The team participated in the Team Traditional Event and Individual Traditional Event. The participants were Integrated 5-year (BSc.+MSc.) Yoga students Ahan Samanta, Birendra Kumar Jurri, Debnath Das, Rajkumar Shyamal, Sachin Kumar Nureti, Suman Laha, Swarnab Koley from Belur Campus and Dinesh Kumar B, Chandru K, Navenetha Krishnan from GAPEY, Coimbatore Campus along with Dr. S. Eshwaran, Assistant Professor, GAPEY as the team manager. The participants had to perform some compulsory and some optional yogic exercises set by the organising committee for the competition. Those are listed below-
Compulsory Asanas
- Surya Namaskara (Sequence of 12 postures)
- Paschimottanasana, Sarvangasana, Purna Dhanurasana, Karnapidasana, Garudasana.
Optional Asanas
- Mayurasana, Padma Bakasana, Hanumansana, Titiabhasana, Purna Chakrasana, Setubandh sarvangasana, Vrischikasana, Purna shalavasana, Omkarasana.
In the compulsory section, each of the participants from a team had to perform Suryanamaskar and all the asanas while synchronizing their every movement. After that event, four optional asanas had to be performed. Ahan Samanta participated in Individual Traditional Yogasana Event where he performed 4 optional asanas- Setubandh sarvangasana, Vrischikasana, Parivritta-Ushtrasana, Padma Bakasana. The participants were evaluated based on degree of flexibility, duration of retention of position, accuracy & precision of final posture and composure, calmness while performing. Guided by Swami Vivekananda’s inspiring words and aligned with AIU’s vision, we are confident that this participation has provided our students with a valuable experience that will help them in future.
