Guiding Principles
The Department will follow certain guiding principles that were given by Swami Vivekananda in different speeches and sermons. They are:
During a lecture Swami Vivekananda had mentioned that “….you will be nearer to Heaven through football than the study of Gita…. You will understand the Upanishads better and the glory of the Atman, when your body stands firm on your feet and you feel yourself as man.” (The Complete Works of Swami Vivekananda, Volume 3, Page : 242) Physical preparation is important for travelling the path of Spirituality.
“…..However, to bring that about, the old institution of “living with the Guru” and similar systems of imparting education are needed. What we want are Western science coupled with Vedanta, Brahmacharya as the guiding motto, and also Shraddha and faith in one’s own self…..” (The complete works of Swami Vivekananda – page 366)
“….You see, no one can teach anybody. The teacher spoils everything by thinking that he is teaching. Thus Vedanta says that within man is all knowledge — even in a boy it is so — and it requires only an awakening, and that much is the work of a teacher. We have to do only so much for the boys that they may learn to apply their own intellect to the proper use of their hands, legs, ears, eyes, etc., and finally everything will become easy……” (The complete works of Swami Vivekananda – page 366)
