The First and Second year students of MSc. Sports Science from the Department of Sports and Yoga visited different high-performance centers (HPC) in Khalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar. The students were accompanied by a faculty member Dr. Manohar Kumar Pahan, and aided by our alumni and Junior Sports Science Expert at Khelo India State Center of Excellence at Kalinga Stadium, Mr. Rangan Pan. The students were provided opportunities to learn from working professionals from the multiple fields of sports science. The interactions consisted of different types of sessions like lectures, practical demonstrations, guided tours, Q&As, etc. which helped them to understand how theoretical knowledge is applied on the field.
Events Summary
Day 1 (24/11/2025)
The students were welcomed by the head of the Khelo India State Center of Excellence Dr. Sudeep Satpathy for an Introduction session where he introduced all the staff and the roles they play in running a sports science center. Then a lecture was conducted by the physiotherapist at Khelo India Dr. Shirsha Saini Nandal on load monitoring. After that, the students visited Tenvic Weightlifting HPC under the guidance of their strength and condition coach, Mr. M. H. Sidiq. After which the students tried different physiotherapeutic modules at Khelo India State Center of Excellence. The junior sports science expert Mr. Rangan Pan demonstrated the testing procedures using force plates and lastly they visited Reliance foundation and the facilities within the HPC.
Day 2 (25/11/2025)
The day started with a lecture from the Senior Sports Science Expert at Khelo India, Dr. Soumitra Mondal. Where he detailed the purpose of testing and why we should be testing the athlete. The interactive session cleared the doubts of the students and enhanced their understanding of the practical aspects of the field. Then the students visited different HPCs, within the Kalinga Stadium Campus, including, Odisha AM/NS India Gymnastics HPC, JSW Sports Swimming HPC and Abhinav Bindra Targeting Performance (ABTP) sports science center. The day ended with a lecture from Dr. Sameer Sekhar Patra, sports medicine doctor at Khelo India on concussion and how to handle it.
Day 3 (26/11/2025)
On the final day of the exposure they practiced using BODPOD and learned the procedure for accurate measurement using BODPOD. Then they visited the GNSPF Shooting HPC, the central gym at the stadium and the Naval Tata Hockey Academy all within the Kalinga Stadium campus. Finally, they did a practical session on massage and different massage techniques to finish the exposure trip.
The mixture of lectures and practical sessions meant the students learned the theory and got to see their application on the field. The exposure to different equipment and techniques increase their knowledge and initiates their journey as a working sports scientist. In the technological era where the equipments are ever changing, seeing the newest equipment provides new understanding of new areas of testing and research.
Lastly, we thank all the staff from all the HPCs across the campus for being wonderful hosts for the students and sharing their valuable knowledge. Special thanks to the staff at Khelo India Center of Excellence, Mr. Rangan Pan and Dr. Soumitra Mondal for arranging everything for our visit.
